What do you get when you combine one of Britain’s most resonant emerging cinematic voices, and a pair of incredible Oscar-favourite performers? You get Ammonite, the upcoming second film from writer-director Francis Lee. Following up the brilliant God’s Own Country, his second feature – which will shortly be closing out the BFI London Film Festival 2020 – is a stirring and emotional drama tells the story of 19th century palaeontologist Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) whose isolated world is opened up by the arrival of Charlotte Murchison (Saoirse Ronan), sparking a passionate romance between the pair. Watch the trailer here.

All the signs here point to another stellar film from Lee, who has a knack for drawing gorgeous, tender same-sex love stories against harsh British landscapes. And it seems like Winslet and Ronan are on peak form here too. Here they are on a stunning new poster.
