We're already eagerly anticipating director Nia DaCosta's new take on the Candyman mythos (produced by Jordan Peele), and she's now put online an animated prequel to the movie, which delves into its origins of racial violence, which just serves to make it that much more timely. Not to mention, creepily effective.

Created by performance and production company Manual Cinema, the short explores the dark history of the Candyman character and other victims of racially motivated violence, all through the eyes and canvas of Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who moves into the neighbourhood where the original film was set. Even as it gentries and changes, the terror remains, and Anthony is caught up in it.

While the movie was originally supposed to arrive in UK cinemas last week, the world pandemic meant it was delayed to 20 September, and hopefully it'll have the chance to open, as it has a new urgency. Check out the most recent trailer below.
