Could Hollywood be looking for a new Exorcist? It would appear that way – at least obliquely – as New Line has signed Anthony Hopkins to play a priest who helps a young seminary student battle demonic forces in The Rite.
Mikael Hafstrom is directing a tale adapted from Matt Baglio’s book – based on true events, it says here – that sees a disillusioned young priest-in-training see his faith cemented when he enrols in exorcism school at the Vatican and ends up encountering hellish spirits.
Hopkins will be his mentor and guide, and whose methods are, shall we say, a little less than traditional.
There’s no word on when this one will get going, though it’ll have to wait until Hopkins is finished with Thor.
