Aquaman 2 - April Fool

Don’t believe anything you read on the internet today without checking yourself first: it’s 1 April, so the world wide web is awash with all kinds of fakery for the next few hours. But believe us when we say Aquaman 2 does not have a trailer yet – even if Warner Bros want you believe there is one, for just a few precious seconds. In an April Fool gag, the studio launched a trailer that opens with a title card for Aquaman 2 – before quickly turning into a nifty Shazam! teaser.

Of course, Warner can feel free to joke about an Aquaman sequel – the first film took $1.1 billion at the box office to become the most financially successful DCEU entry so far, outgrossing Justice League, Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman. Not only is a second film dated for 2022, but horror spin-off The Trench is in the works too, produced by James Wan and Peter Safran.

Before all that, Shazam! arrives in cinemas this week starring Asher Angel as foster kid Billy Batson, and Zachary Levi as the giant spandex-wearing adult superhero he transforms into when saying the magic word. The film is opening to positive reviews – the latest step in the right direction for the DC Extended Universe. Read the Empire review here.
