It was way back in 2018 that filmmaker Ava DuVernay jumped aboard Warner Bros./DC Comics' movie New Gods, which has been in development ever since. There hasn't been a lot of movement on it (for obvious worldwide reasons more recently), but DuVernay isn't letting that stop her carving out a corner of the DC Universe, albeit on smaller screens. She's made a deal to work on an adaptation of comics character Naomi alongside Arrow veteran Jill Blankenship.

The latter's old home of US network The CW is the target for this new show, with DuVernay and Blankenship attached to write and executive produce Naomi. The potential series follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.

Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker created and wrote the standalone comic series in 2019, with illustrations from Jamal Campbell. In the comics, Naomi had energy-based powers as well as an ability to transform into superpowered form that granted her incredible strength and other abilities.
