Despite being busy with her new miniseries about the Central Park Five and the host of other projects she's producing or developing, director Ava DuVernay is adding another topic close to her heart to the list. She's been at work on a documentary about late music legend Prince for Netflix.

"Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses,” she tweeted about the news. “The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate."

According to Deadline, Prince's estate specifically reached out to the filmmaker to work on the documentary, opening up the archives to provide recordings, unreleased material and help setting up interviews. Prince himself had apparently talked to DuVernay before his death about collaborating on something.

DuVernay and her team, including editor Spencer Averick have been visiting the icon's Paisley Park home to kick off work on the documentary, but there's no word on when it might hit screens. Central Park Five, meanwhile, will hit Netflix next year.
