Internet rumourmongers can rest easy today with news that their instincts about Darren Aronofsky were right. The 31-year old, it transpires, will be sitting in the director's chair for Batman 5. News broke this afternoon (21 September 2000) on Variety that Warner Bros had assigned the job of taking Batman into the twenty-first century to the director best known for his ground-breaking 1998 feature Pi. Aronovsky will team up with Frank Miller for the project. Miller is the author of graphic novel Batman One, the book on which this film will be based, and which was also the starting point of inspiration for the original Tim Burton movie. Batman YO explains how Bruce Wayne got into the crime fighting caper in the first place - being a scene-setter movie the only other main character besides Batman is Commissioner Gordon who's the only uncorrupted police officer in Gotham City and just beginning his career. As for baddies - there aren't any - except for Catwoman.
