How To Build A Girl

The last few years have been killer for Beanie Feldstein – who held her own across from Saoirse Ronan with a brilliant performance in Lady Bird, and then knocked it out of the park in last year’s Booksmart, not to mention her recurring role in the What We Do In The Shadows TV series. And if you like seeing her in coming-of-age stories, you should be looking forward to How To Build A Girl.

Based on the novel by Caitlin Moran, itself loosely based on Moran’s own experiences as a young music writer, the film stars Feldstein as Johanna Morrigan – a working class 16-year-old living in Wolverhampton who moves to London and reinvents herself as rock critic Dolly Wilde. As well as a new pic of Feldstein in full Wilde mode, complete with bright red hair and a top hat, the film has now been confirmed for a UK release on 3 July.

How To Build A Girl is directed by Coky Giedroyc with a screenplay adapted by Moran herself, and features a stellar supporting cast including the likes of Paddy Considine, Emma Thompson, Chris O’Dowd, and Alfie Allen. And it’s not the only leading role we’ll be seeing from Feldstein this year – she’s also been hard at work shooting the upcoming American Crime Story season, with a series-leading role as Monica Lewinsky.
