Ben Wheatley has always been a prolific filmmaker. And he's also, occasionally, a sneaky blighter, making movies under the radar. Case in point: In The Earth, which he somehow knocked out during the pandemic and will be in cinemas next year.
In The Earth, has Joel Fry, Ellora Torchia, Hayley Squires and Reece Shearsmith in the cast. The story is set in a world beset by a disastrous virus (so... documentary)? A scientist and park scout venture deep into the forest for a routine equipment run, and through the night, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness, with the forest coming to life around them.
Wheatley wrote the script for the film and just finished shooting. Neon has the rights for the US and is looking into a 2021 release – we'll wait and see who picks it up for British audiences.
