With the Christmas period behind us, awards season resumed last night with the Golden Globes. And on Tuesday, one of the major Stateside guilds announced its nominees, with the Directors Guild of America, giving the nod to the likes of Bradley Cooper, Spike Lee, Peter Farrelly and Alfonso Cuarón.

A Star Is Born's Cooper made two lists – he was nominated alongside the people behind BlacKkKlansman, Green Book, Roma and Vice (Adam McKay for the last one) – and also ended up in the First-Time Feature Director category with Sorry To Bother You's Boots Riley, Eighth Grade's Bo Burnham, Matthew Heineman of A Private War

and Carlos López Estrada, the filmmaker who brought us Blindspotting.

While the lists once again shows a sad lack of female directors, the main category is also notable for those it doesn't include, such as Black Panther's Ryan Coogler and The Favourite's Yorgos Lanthimos.

On the TV side of things, McKay showed up again in the list drama list for Succession along with Jason Bateman for Ozark, Lesli Linka Glatter for Homeland, The Americans' Chris Long and The Handmaid's Tale director Daina Reid.

For TV comedy, Donald Glover repeated for Atlanta (which also saw regular collaborator Hiro Murai in competition), Bill Hader landed on the list thanks to Barry and Daniel Palladino for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Nominated for TV Movie or Limited Series are Maniac's Cary Fukunaga, Jesus Christ Superstar Live's David Leveaux and Alex Rudzinski, Paterno's Barry Levinson, Ben Stiller for Escape At Dannemora and Sharp Objects director Jean-Marc Vallée.
