Standing like an oasis in the relative desert of late summer releases is David Mackenzie’s Hell Or High Water. The Brit’s follow-up to crunching prison drama Starred-Up is one to mark your diary for. While you’re finding a pen, here’s the film’s new UK trailer to watch.
Boasting a stellar cast (Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine, Ben Foster), a script from Sicario’s Taylor Sheridan and a score by The Proposition pair Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, it’s a hothouse of talent. If it had much more pedigree, it’d sprout legs and enter the Grand National.
A Western with thriller-y undercurrents (or vice versa), Mackenzie’s film has two brothers (Pine and Foster) embarking on a series of bank heists across Texas. Ranger Marcus Hamilton (Bridges) is in hot pursuit as blood is shed and the stakes are inexorably cranked up. Expect high-calibre character acting, big setpieces and an edge of social commentary.
