Chris Rocks The Box Office

Is this the end of the world?

With the world at war, our leaders gone insane and the looming threat of global Armageddon, it's strangely fitting that Chris Rock should top the American box office. One of the lesser mentioned biblical prophecies heralding the end of days, Rock's ascendance to ruler of the weekend's screens and the financial success of one of his films appears in the book of Revelation just after mention of the four horseman. The phenomenon has been widely confirmed by church leaders as divine confirmation that the end really is pretty nigh indeed. Head of State reaped no less than $14 million in the US since its Friday release, and pushed the pathologically unfunny Rock to the top of this week's pile. The film sees a series of improbable occurrences catapult Chris Rock into the US presidency, where his jive-talking antics cause something of a stir. Given public opinion on the current head of state across the pond, it may well have been simple wish-fulfilment that saw people clamouring to see Chris Rock in the Oval Office. Nevertheless, you can bet that this will have audiences hitting the streets in droves to ring bells, wear sandwich-boards stating that the judgement day is here and generally waiting to be consumed by a fiery maelstrom. Which might be for the best.
