Click Tops The US Box Office

Another hit for Adam Sandler

Click Tops The US Box Office

Adam Sandler proves time and again that people love his films, no matter how silly. And despite savage reviews, Click launched with $40 million to become his sixth number one opening weekend. Looks like he’ll be able to afford to send his new daughter to college, then.

Also arriving in the charts at fourth – and with plenty of reasons to celebrate itself – was Waist Deep, a new thriller starring Tyrese Gibson, rapper The Game and Meagan Good. Deep opened to an impressive $9.4 million, which doesn’t seem like an awful lot, but it’s quite an achievement when you consider it was in just 1,004 cinemas, compared to Click’s 3,749.

That was it for the new openers. The other chart entries had a variety of good and bad news come their way as Cars held second with a healthy $22 million, living up to the Pixar tradition of their ‘toons having legs. Stalling badly in its second week was The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift, which dropped to fifth, taking $9.2 million this weekend. Looks like the thrill seekers all went the first weekend.

X-Men: The Last Stand continues to rise above all else, keeping ahold of its 2006 top-earner-to-date status with a healthy $224 million in the US. But it was joined in the $200 million-plus domestic club (they have special key chains) by The Da Vinci Code, which finally jumped up to $205.5 million.

Nine out of 10 cats prefer… The charts!
