As the new iteration of the Scream satirical horror franchise slowly comes together, more if the original cast are jumping on board. The latest addition is Courteney Cox, who will return as news reporter Gale Weathers.
Ready Or Not co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are calling the shots for the film, which has a script by James Vanderbilt and Ready's Guy Busick. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original films for late director Wes Craven, is on as a producer.
"We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney," Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett enthuse in a statement from their Radio Silence filmmaking company. "We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!” Cox joins the likes of David Arquette, back as Dewey Riley, with Neve Campbell in talks to return as Sidney Prescott.
Paramount and Spyglass Media are backing the film, which should be shooting later this year in North Carolina, following the now-standard Covid safety protocols.
