After making waves as a mermaid in the Tom Hanks movie Splash back in 1984 and gaining acting kudos in Oliver Stone's hard-hitting Wall Street in 1987, the once hot eighties star, Daryl Hannah has decided to quit acting and concentrate on directing. In an interview with Talk magazine, the 39-year-old actress, who is currently starring in the West End theatre production of The Seven Year Itch, complains that she's tired of being turned down for roles because of her age. "My manager says [the studios] want somebody 25, 22. That's the God's honest truth. Every time, 'you're too old.'" She added that she no longer gets offered good parts and has to settle for playing "objects of desire, the wife, the girlfriend." Hannah's last notable cinematic role was in Robert Altman's The Gingerbread Man and, although she has several movies in the pipeline, she only plans on acting for a few more years before focussing on directing films and music videos.
