David Yates Set For Tarzan

Since wrapping up work at Hogwarts on the final **Harry Potter film, David Yates has had time to pick and choose his next project. He considered psychological dramaYour Voice In My Head **with Emma Watson, but now, according to Vulture, he’s locked in a deal to make a new version of Tarzan at Warner Bros.

Given his experience with the scale and style of the Potter movies, Tarzan seems like something at which Yates could excel, especially if it gives him the chance to stretch other filmmaking muscles.

**Tarzan **is one of the most enduring characters ever created, and has cropped up in numerous forms on both big and small screens, as well as comic books and novels, all sprung from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ original tales. Several directors have come and gone on this one, including Craig Brewer, Stephen Sommers and even Guillermo del Toro. While we’d still love to see Del Toro’s take in particular, we’re happy if Yates truly has the job. And we're intrigued to see how a new Tarzan would work, especially after last year's Edgar Rice Burroughs effort, John Carter, met a rather hostile reception. Can the king of the swingers still command an audience? We hope so.

The next big step, of course, will be finding the right person to slip on the loincloth. Yates is apparently meeting with the likes of Henry Cavill, Alexander Skarsgard and Sons Of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam, who Warner Bros. would happily keep working with after Pacific Rim. There’s also talk of Tom Hardy, but we doubt he’d take it on.
