David Harbour

With the demand for it in full force after the success of the first film, development on the Deadpool sequel continues apace, with John Wick's David Leitch in the director's chair. According to The Wrap, one of the major elements is on the verge of falling into place, as Stranger Things' David Harbour is in serious consideration to play Cable.

The site cautions that nothing has been decided yet, but that Harbour – who plays police chief Jim Hopper on the Netflix show – has screen-tested for the role of the mutant character. Cable, who in the comics is an alter-ego of Scott Summers' son Nathan, famously travels back in time to the present day from a future timeline and has long been associated with the X-Force team, which is where he comes into conflict with the Merc With A Mouth. How much of his backstory makes it in to the movie remains to be seen, but we can expect him to boast the cybernetic technology that is a hallmark of the character.

With Ryan Reynolds back in the suit and writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese at work on the script, the film remains without a confirmed release date as the team aims to get the script right before committing to a shoot.

But Slash Film has heard that we'll be seeing more of Wade Wilson sooner rather than later, as there's a promotional scene for the sequel attached to the run of trailers before Logan in cinemas – UK readers may have already seen it, though it was not included with press screenings. In case you don't want to know anything else, head here to read about it.

Stranger Things, meanwhile, returns around Halloween this year.
