David Cross says AD movie is off

Development Arrested?

Remember back in October all that talk about an Arrested Development movie, which creator Michael Hurwitz would be writing and directing? Remember how happy you felt, and the warm fuzzy glow you carried around for a while knowing that, though great shows can get cruelly cancelled, sometimes good things can happen? Well prepare to go back to feeling embittered and twisted: AD star David Cross says he doesn't think it's happening after all.

Cross played "analrapist" (not as bad as it sounds), "never-nude", failed actor and inept Mrs Doubtfire Tobias Fünke in the show, and a movie would be pretty unthinkable without him. But talking to TV Squad, he dropped the following bombshell:

"It's not going to happen. It's been way too long, there's so many people involved, everyone's doing their own thing, and everybody's aged. I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say we'd love for it to happen, we'd love to work on it, but it would feel strange and foreign to see these characters on a movie theater screen, I think. It would feel odd on anything over 42 inches."

He's a funny guy, but he doesn't sound as if he's joking here. It's possible that he's just not currently in the loop, but frankly, if the project was a going concern, you'd think Cross of all people would know about it. So farewell prison jumpsuits and frozen bananas, MRFs and The Blue Man Group. The dream was fun while it lasted. We'll always have those three seasons.
