Justin Lin

Some shocking news to emerge from the world of Fast & Furious – director Justin Lin, who has been behind many of the franchise's movies, has decided to leave the 10th instalment mere days into production.

According to Deadline, the split is amicable but the result of creative differences between studio Universal and the director. It's somewhat surprising since Lin is so closely involved with these movies, to the point where he co-wrote this one. You would think differences would be ironed out before such a mammoth production hits the road.

Lin makes no mention of that (not that we would expect him to necessarily in his own statement on the departure)...

Yet to comment is, of course, Fast star/producer and shepherd Vin Diesel, who can usually be found announcing everything and anything about the movies on his own social media account. He was last seen – with Lin – celebrating the end of the first week's filming.

Put your guesses in now as to who takes over as director once the production unpauses and gets back to work. Will this see Diesel finally take the reins? Would James Wan have time to step in and keep the pedal to the metal?

With the likes of Brie Larson, Jason Momoa, and Daniel Melchior joining the regular gang, Fast X is still currently scheduled for release on 19 May next year.
