Dracula: The Sequel

It’s not every day that a film gets to be considered the first official sequel to one of the literature's most cherished novels.

But such is the power – apparently – behind The Un-Dead, which will be set 25 years after the events in Bram Stoker’s seminal Dracula. Currently in development by Jan De Bont’s Blue Tulip Productions, the script was written by Drac expert Ian Holt and will feature all the surviving characters from Stoker’s novel, including Jonathan and Mina Harker and Professor Van Helsing. The Stoker family has officially recognised the screenplay – a first since the original 1931 Bela Lugosi cinematic Dracula.

De Bont is currently searching for someone to take the helming job. “We’re going after someone who knows how to do big-budget, adult Gothic horror with top A-list actors like Silence Of The Lambs,” De Bont told Fangoria. “We’re not making a B-movie teen slasher film here. This is the Dracula sequel the true fans have been waiting for.”

The pressure's on - let's hope Keanu Reeves doesn't hear about it...
