She's been rightly lauded for her work writing and directing the excellent Promising Young Woman, and Emerald Fennell is now figuring out a deal to adapt the Zatanna character for DC and Warner Bros.

Created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, Zatanna Zatara (who usually goes by just her first name) is the daughter of magician Giovanni "John" Zatara and Sindella, a member of the mystical Homo Magi race. Zatanna was raised by her father in a small house in New York, near the infamous Arkham Asylum. Zatanna's mother seemingly died after her birth, but she eventually learned that Sindella faked her death to return to her people.

Zatanna became a successful stage illusionist before discovering her powerful abilities and going on a mission to find her missing father. She's also been part of the Justice League and has suffered the loss of her powers more than once.

If the movie comes together, this would mark the second female character in the current DCEU to lead her own movie. Fennell might be new to the comic book world, but she's got genre credits under her belt thanks to running the second season of Killing Eve.
