Beginning in the first issue of our birthday year – January 2019, which is out next week – we are celebrating the 30 adventurous filmmakers who have shaped the last three decades of cinema. From blockbuster titans to new breakthrough auteurs – they are the men and women who have evolved the medium most significantly, as chosen by Empire’s writers and critics.
To mark this milestone, we commissioned an extra-special subscriber, featuring every single one of them in pixel art form, as designed by Supertotto.
Now, we won’t be officially announcing who they all are yet – so it’s up to you to make like Batman (in the sense of him being the world’s greatest detective, not the whole dressing as a ninja-bat thing) and see how many you can guess before we unveil the list properly next week.
