Fede Álvarez Directing New Alien Movie

Fede Álvarez, Alien

Though Ridley Scott has been the main man overseeing the Alien franchise of late (and dashing the hopes of some other filmmakers), he's now decided to give someone else the chance to make a stand-alone movie: Fede Álvarez.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Don't Breathe writer/director had a pitch that he casually ran past Scott and, while he didn't immediately respond, Scott kept it in mind and is now giving Álvarez his shot.

The details are being kept in an egg for now, but we do know it won't connect directly to either the Ripley saga or Scott's Prometheus-led prequels, but will be set in the same universe. So expect slavering xenomorphs and facehuggers, plus probably some unsuspecting humans just ready to be hosts or fight back. According to 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell, the company went for the new project because: "It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before."

No word on when it might arrive, but the new movie is apparently headed to Hulu in the States (Disney+ in the UK) as part of 20th Century Studios' deal to make a certain number of films for the streaming service a year.
