We may not even seen the fourth series of The Crown until next year at the earliest, but there's already something to set the anticipation meter to high... According to The Sunday Times, Gillian Anderson is joining the show to play iconic (and contentious) Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Anderson becomes the latest in a line of actors to take on the role, with Meryl Streep, Greta Scacchi and Andrea Riseborough having brought her to life in other films and shows.

As The Crown carries the story of the royals through the 1960s and 70s in the next two seasons, Olivia Colman is taking over as Queen Elizabeth, with Tobias Menzies the next Prince Phillip. We'll also see Helena Bonham Carter playing Princess Margaret, alongside Ben Daniels as Anthony Armstrong-Jones.

We'll also start to see people such as Camilla Parker Bowles (Emerald Fennell). Netflix has yet to announce when the third series will land, but we can at least be comforted by the fact that both new series are being shot back to back, so there should be less of a wait between them this time.

Anderson is on screen now in Netflix's Sex Education.
