Gone To Hell

Heyday for Hellboy at US box office

Demons, it would seem, are in this week, with Gullermo Del Toro's Hellboy cleaning house at the US box office over the weekend. Taking $23.5 million, the film knocked The Rock's Walking Tall aside and laughed in the face of Scooby-Doo 2 to land the coveted number one spot. This may come as something of a surprise to many who thought a film starring Ron Perlman in a lobster-coloured body suit and Selma Blair hurling flames about was destined for an ignoble end. Sure, the trailer looked good but then so did the one for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and we all remember how that turned out. But unlike Stephen Norrington's debacle, Hellboy has garnered a slew of positive reviews and, quite frankly, looks brilliant. What is not brilliant, however, is the amount of time us Brits are going to have to wait before we can find out for ourselves. The film isn't scheduled for release until 3 September here in Blighty and, in the words of Queen Victoria, we are not amused.
