What’s that coming out of the trees? Is it… a lion? It’s a lion. But not just any lion. As shown in the tense new trailer for Beast, this lion is heckin’ mad, and set to tear down any human who stands in its way. The particular humans in question are Idris Elba’s Dr Nate Samuels and his two daughters Norah (Leah Jeffries) and Meredith (Iyana Halley), as well as their safari guide Martin Battles (Sharlto Copley). Watch the new trailer below.

Nate and his daughters are on a trip to South Africa to try and reconnect after his wife, their mother, passed away. Unfortunately, they get a lot more than they bargained for when they fall into the path of a rogue lion, provoked into a killing spree by the poachers that attacked its pride. Beast is directed by Baltasar Kormákur – no stranger to survival stories, his previous work includes Adrift (people vs. hurricane in a boat), Everest (people vs. storm up a mountain) and The Deep (fisherman vs. freezing ocean). On co-writing duty is Rampage’s Ryan Engle, though thankfully, on this occasion, the titular frenzied animal is normal-sized.

Beast arrives in UK cinemas on 26 August 2022, and keep your eyes peeled for a trailer breakdown with director Baltasar Kormákur coming to empireonline.com very soon.
