Straight after the politically charged antics of The Kingdom, Jamie Foxx is once again tackling heavy subject matter in a film based on The Zebra Murders: A Season Of Killing, Racial Madness and Civil Rights. And it looks like this one's going to be Zodiac with racial politics thrown in.
Set in San Francisco in 1973 and 1974, the story concerns a series of racially-motivated killings of white people by a fanatical black nationalist group, and the two black cops who cracked the case - despite harrassment from their colleagues and a quick stop to sue the department for discrimination en route. Foxx will play Sanders, who co-wrote the book on which the film was based and who later went on to become San Francisco Chief of Police.
Matthew Michael Carnahan, who also wrote The Kingdom and who is making a career of politically charged material like this (see also Lions for Lambs) is writing the script, but there is no director onboard yet. Foxx also has to shoot The Soloist next, so don't hold your breath for this effort until he's got his latest Oscar-grabber - sorry, that should read "latest project" - out of the way.
