**Update: **Arse. According to Lynch herself, who talked to The Hollywood Reporter, she has not been approached for the movie.{ =nofollow}Note to Jason Segel and James Bobin: hire this woman!

We’ve loved her for years as a laugh-grabbing scene-stealer in Christopher Guest’s films, but recently Jane Lynch seems to have become something of an American cultural treasure thanks to Glee. Now she’s getting ready to meet another US institution as Lynch has signed on to be part of the new Muppet movie.

The Wrap reports that Lynch will co-star in the film as a prison guard responsible for keeping Danny Trejo in line. The pair joins Jason Segel, who is starring in and co-wrote the movie, Rashida Jones, Amy Adams and Chris Cooper. Oh, and Flight of the Conchords' James Bobin is directing.

But Lynch and Trejo are just the tip of the casting iceberg that has slowly emerged from the waves today about the film.

While The Wrap also brings word of Community’s Donald Glover nabbing an unspecified role, Production Weekly has been tweeting up a storm, revealing that Jack Black, Eric Stonestreet (of TV’s Modern Family), John Krasinski and Ed Helms are all being rumoured as joining the movie, with Zach Galifianakis likely confirmed and Paul Rudd rumoured to voice the new Muppet, Walter.

Segel, as you’ll likely know, is the human who helps our felt friends save their old theatre, which is in danger of being bulldozed after oil is discovered beneath it.

If that human ensemble turns out to be accurate, perhaps this truly could live up to its working title of The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made. But to be honest, we’d just be happy to see Lynch take on Miss Piggy…
