**UPDATE: **As we mentioned below, the Russos’ regular collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely seemed like the natural go-to for scripting the huge two-parter. And indeed Badass Digest has confirmed that they’ll take on the job.
It’s not exactly breaking news, since the team at Badass Digest got word from a rock solid source at the end of last month. But Marvel has made it officially official, announcing that Captain America: The Winter Solider and **Captain America: Civil War **directors Joe and Anthony Russo are set to direct both parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest film yet with the two-part **Avengers: Infinity War.
Nothing was mentioned about who might be tackling the scripts for the films, since the Russos don’t tend to pull a Joss Whedon and write themselves, though they play a big part in crafting the story and resulting drafts. Given their success with the Cap films working alongside the directors, though, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely would seem to be the natural choice for the job.
“We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe," Kevin Feige said about the movies. "Avengers: Infinity War Part I is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before." He's not wrong, since, if it even loosely follows the comic version, will see Thanos (voiced/performance captured by Josh Brolin) acquiring the Infinity Gauntlet and planning to wipe out half of existince if he's not stopped.** Part I** is set for April 27, 2018, with Part II taking aim at April 26, 2019.
The Russos have plenty to keep them busy before they start on the epic confrontation with Thanos and the rest. They're developing a Ghostbusters film with Sony, but much more pressingly, they’re currently preparing to shoot Captain America: Civil War, which will feature Chris Evans’ Cap and Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, while also introducing Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and possibly whoever is taking over the Spider-Man role.** Civil War** invades our cinemas on April 29 next year.
In related Avengers news, Joss Whedon tells Entertainment Weekly that** Age Of Ultron** will not be holding to Marvel tradition and doesn't boast a post-credits tag scene. While it will have a mid-credits epilogue, don't hang around in the cinema (unless you suspect they're being sneaky, as the first Avengers shot that famous deli scene on the press junket day). “There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out,” Whedon says. “We want people to know so they don’t sit there for ten minutes and then go: ‘Son of a bitch! I’ll kill them!’” So no more shawarma? “It didn’t seem to lend itself in the same way, and we wanted to be true to what felt right. The first rule of making a sequel is take the best moments and do something else. Don’t do the Indiana Jones gun trick again differently. Just go somewhere else. Don’t try to hit the same highs, because people will sense it.”
