Many of us might have floundered a bit after the last year, but not John David Washington. He lit up our lockdown screens opposite Zendaya in Malcolm and Marie and has been busy working with Robert De Niro, Margot Robbie and Christian Bale in David O. Russell's new film since last October. Now, he'll be teaming up with Gareth Edwards for his new project, True Love.

Plot details remain under wraps, but Edwards will be writing and directing the new sci-fi project which has been described as "a near future sci-fi story", according to Deadline. Since his breakout gig directing 2014's Godzilla, Edwards most recently was at the helm of Star Wars spin-off Rogue One__. There had been a few potential projects up in the air, but now with Washington on board it's full steam ahead for True Love, in collaboration with production company New Regency.

Washington first got his breakout role in Spike Lee's Oscar-winning BlacKkKlansman, proving once and for all that he was stepping out of his dad Denzel's shadow. And if that wasn't enough to set us on the right track, he then decided to fully rip up the rulebook in Christopher Nolan's time-warping, mind-melting Tenet last summer. No project too big or too small for Washington – only bold, impressively ambitious decisions every time. Let's hope True Love follows suit.
