A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place was such a considerable smash in the first half of 2018 that it’s no wonder that (very hushed) talk quickly turned to the possibility of a sequel. A follow-up was swiftly announced, but with very little concrete detail – and now with the first film’s home release on the horizon, a new interview has offered some extra tidbits on the sequel’s development.

Speaking to Collider, producer Andrew Form said that A Quiet Place 2: Silent Boogaloo is steadily moving along — and that director John Krasinksi remains part of the process. “Oh [Krasinski is] definitely involved,” Form said. “We’re lucky on this one. I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, ‘Here’s your date. Let’s go!’ and on this one we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing. So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it and we’re just starting to talk about it. We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything.”

Krasinski rewrote the screenplay for the first film – a process you can read all about in this making-of feature he wrote exclusively for Empire – but it was previously unknown whether he’d be involved in the making of the sequel. MAJOR SPOILER WARNING His character in the first film, dad Lee, didn’t make it to the final reel, so it seems unlikely that he’d star this time, unless the film jumps to an earlier time period in the space-bastard attack.

It still seems like very early days for the sequel, so don’t expect it any time soon — but considering how strong the first film ended up (see where it ranks on our Best Movies of 2018 list) we’re pleased they’re not rushing this.
