As Jungle Cruise drifts past the $100 million mark at the box office Disney has decided to book a second journey. The Mouse House has stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Bluntofficially aboard for a sequel.
It is, naturally, very early days for this one, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, co-writer Michael Green will be back alongside director Jaume Collet-Serra.
The first film, which saw Johnson's skipper Frank Wolff ferrying intrepid research Dr. Lily Houghton and her nervy brother MacGregor (Jack Whitehall, who also seems likely to return) on a mission to find a legendary plant with healing powers. That movie ends with Frank visiting Lily in London, so it seems likely that the cruise this time will happen on some other river.
Jungle Cruise is one of the movies that Disney released simultaneously in cinemas and on streaming service Disney+, and saw the movie make $35 million in the States plus $30 million from streaming venue in its first three days. Since then, it has been a steady performer and is at around $187 million at the worldwide box office. We're guessing it won't take more than 15 years to come together this time...
