Kate Hudson is set to star in Big Eyes, a biopic of 1960s artist Margaret Keane, a woman famed for her drawings of winsome looking girls with giant eyes. Though the paintings are quite clearly horrible, and frankly a little scary (you can see some here, though be warned that they are called things like 'Happy Kingdom' and 'Tiger Prince'), they became massively popular in their day – kind of the '60s equivalent of 'Tennis Player Scratching Bum' or 'Topless Hunk With Baby'.

The drama, according to Variety's story, "covers Keane's personal awakening at the onset of the feminist movement, leading to a lawsuit she filed against her husband, Walter, who claimed credit for her works". The film will be the directorial debut of Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who also wrote the script.

After several successful years in the romantic comedy arena, it'll be nice to see Hudson getting her teeth into something dramatic. She's a very good actress, as she showed in Almost Famous, and we think capable of a lot more than we've seen.
