Leonardo DiCaprio and Boston crime proved to be a solid combination in The Departed. And he clearly enjoyed working from a Dennis Lehane story for Shutter Island. So a combo platter of the two elements? A no-brainer! Which explains why Warner Bros. is trying to lure him to star in an adaptation of Lehane’s latest, Live By Nigh****t.
Planned as the second tome in a trilogy, **Night **will transport several characters from the writer’s novel The Given Day, which ends in 1919 with the Boston police strike. The new book – which doesn’t hit shelves until October – focuses on gangsters who run rum on a path from Cuba to Boston via Tampa during Prohibition.
Like DiCaprio, Warners has also had success with Lehane’s novels, with** Mystic River** and Gone Baby Gone both acclaimed adaptations in the past. So it will naturally be trying to get him on board. But while he’s agreed to produce it via his Appian Way company, the actor has lots of other movies vying for his attention including Scorsese reunion The Wolf Of Wall Street, The Revenant and Travis McGee. He's busy working with Quentin Tarantino on Django Unchained right now.
