Logan Lucky, the next film from not-quite-yet-retired director Steven Soderbergh looks set to be a whole heap of fun. From its starry cast (Channing Tatum! Adam Driver! Daniel Craig!) to its madcap plot (a heist during a NASCAR race!), we’re happy to place our life savings on it putting a big ol’ smile on your face. So, in anticipation of its 25 August release, we’ve got an exclusive new still of Daniel Craig’s Joe Bang to share with you:
Tattooed, peroxided and in stripes, legendary local criminal Joe is banged up when the Logan brothers (Tatum and Driver) tap him for help with their grand schemes of a quick payday. All they need to do is spring him from prison – and they’ve got just the plan. As Soderbergh tells Empire in our brand new issue, “It’s probably ill-advised”.
The brains of the operation and a likely cult hero-in-the-making, Soderbergh gave Craig free rein to create his hick con from scratch. “I told him, ‘There’s no wrong answer here, Joe Bang is a blank slate for you to draw on,’” the director explains. “He did some research and found some tatts he was excited about. They’re… interesting. I think he enjoyed it.”
