The future of the Black Panther film universe – understandably – been very much in the air since the tragic death of star Chadwick Boseman at the end of August. Director Ryan Coogler has been working with the Marvel team to work out where the story goes from here, and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they've now set a July start date to begin production on the new movie.

According to the trade mag's report, the specific details are being kept quiet for now, though the likes of Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are all expected to return and if Coogler plumbs several Panther comics stories, we could see Wright's Shuri assuming the mantle of the warrior and royal leader.

Boseman won't be represented in the film, as Marvel has said no CG doubles will be used, though you can expect him to be referenced. Naturally, the Marvel team did not comment for the new story, but we firmly expect team Panther to be back in action next year, with the film likely due in 2022 or 2023.
