Don’t you feel a stab of sympathy in your very heart when one high-paying job clashes with another and an actress has to drop one of them? We know we do.

That’s just what has happened to Kate Walsh, whose day job on TV’s Grey’s Anatomy has taken precedence over co-starring in the new Stephen King film 1408. She’d been warned that she might have to give up the part if scheduling couldn’t be worked out, but she was all, like, “Oh, no worries dawg, we’re smooth.” But ABC/Touchstone Television was more, like, “No way, toots, you’re our corporate shill. Now get back in that hospital.”

Ahem. Now Mary McCormack, who recently finished a stint on The West Wing, will play the ex-wife of John Cusack’s sceptic as he gets caught up in the mystery of a haunted hotel room. Samuel L Jackson’s also on board, and Mikael Hafstrom will start directing shortly.
