McG Promises More Terminator Movies

Do you want the good news, or the bad news*? Here it is, then: McG says that he plans to make two more Terminator movies.

The Artist Never Known As Joseph McGinty revealed his desire on a BD-Live commentary for Terminator Salvation last night, although annoyingly nobody seems to have transcribed his actual quotes. And no, we weren’t watching it either – we were too busy trying to get over the sudden departure of Danyl Johnson in The X Factor.

But it seems that McG did express an interest to complete the trilogy that Salvation, with its open-ended climax, would seem to hint at. Of course, the rights for the Terminator franchise are currently in flux, as the previous holders, Halcyon Entertainment, are selling them off in February, with Sony or Summit considered to be amongst the frontrunners to get them.

And, even though Salvation pulled in a disappointing $371 million worldwide, there’s still enough juice left in the Terminator name for another couple of drops to be squeezed out of it… and it seems that McG has grabbed the juicer, and started waving it around liberally.

Whether this is good or bad news, of course, depends entirely on your p.o.v.: if you think that McG’s **Terminator Salvation **redeemed his previous movies, and showed enough promise to warrant further exploration (the previous mentions of Sarah Connor and present-day London are hugely intriguing, for example), then this is good news.

If, however, you thought that **Terminator Salvation **was a damp squib of a film that didn’t have the courage of its convictions and pulled too many punches, then this is bad news. We’ll leave it up to you to decide where you stand.

As for us, we’re off to lobby for a live Christian Bale commentary. Now that’s something we’d like to hear…
