UPDATE: Toby Stephens – star of Starz's Black Sails and erstwhile Bond villain – has also joined the submarine thriller. According to Deadline, he'll be playing a black ops team leader called Lt. Beaman.

He’s gone head-to-head with Keanu Reeves in John Wick and been 124 floors up the Burj Khalifa with Tom Cruise. Now Michael Nyqvist is preparing to submerge himself in chilly waters for Hunter Killer, a submarine-set actioner that will see him star opposite Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Common and Billy Bob Thornton. You don’t put a bunch of cinema’s go-to tough men in a confined space unless you want things to kick off, so we think it’s safe to bet that not everyone will live to tell the tale.

Directed by South African Donovan Marsh, Hunter Killer is based on George Wallace and Don Keith’s novel Firing Point. The film will see a group of Navy SEALs team up with the submarine’s commander (we’re not yet sure who’s on which side just yet) in order to save the currently-very-kidnapped Russian president. New territory for Gerry B, then...

Hunter Killer starts filming in London this week.
