In the renewed rush to adapt everything Stephen King has committed to paper, it was inevitable that one or two would be sucked into development lingo. One that has been waiting for its chance for a couple of years is the adaptation of The Talisman, which King wrote with Peter Straub. New Mutants' Josh Boone was on board to make it back in 2017, yet now it's in the hands of Broadchurch/Fargo/The Handmaid's Tale's Mike Barker.

Frank Marshall is still attached to produce the film, which Buried's Chris Sparling is writing. The Talisman follows young Jack Sawyer, who travels from New Hampshire to California to save his cancer-stricken mother. On his journey, he learns of an alternate universe called The Territories where twinners – parallel versions of people – live. He'll need to venture across the States and enter The Territories to defend the object that gives the book its title.

Barker's most recent film was 2007 indie Shattered, and he's seen his telly work give his career a boost. If it all comes together, The Talisman would be his biggest film to date. As for other King adaptations, Pet Sematary is the next headed our way, due on 4 April.
