Mission: Impossible 7 Is Officially Titled Dead Reckoning Part One

The Fast & Furious franchise (sorry, the Fast Saga) often gets props for its ever-changing naming conventions. But the Mission: Impossible movies have often played fast and loose with its titles too – there was the original Mission: Impossible, followed by John Woo’s M, and JJ Abrams’ M:I. From there, we’ve had a revolving door of espionage-y titles: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Now, we have an official title for Mission 7. Make way for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

The news was unveiled by at CinemaCon in Vegas as part of the Paramount Pictures panel. That Part One makes sense, since we’ve long known that the seventh and eighth Mission movies would be an epic two-parter – presumably meaning its follow-up will be titled Dead Reckoning Part Two. Both films are being directed by Christopher McQuarrie, and will add cast members Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Rob Delaney, Indira Varma and more to the recurring crew, which includes Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and Vanessa Kirby. What could Dead Reckoning mean, then? It’s an impressively doomy moniker, and might be hinting at Ethan Hunt's eventual fate – though, given the level of threat he tends to deal with, it might as well be titled Mission: Impossible – Just Another Thursday.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is currently due to arrive in cinemas next summer on 14 July, having been recently pushed back a year. Dead Reckoning Part Two (we assume) will be coming a year later on 28 June, 2024.
