Mission: Impossible Fallout

Thanos might have [REDACTED] in Avengers: Infinity War, but there are plenty more heroes waiting in the wings to hit the big screen this summer. The super-powered Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, dealing with the fallout of his previous impossible missions in Mission: Impossible — Fallout, which has just unleashed another hugely exciting action-packed trailer.

The film looks to be a mix of Missions past and present, with Sean Harris returning as Solomon Lane — the Rogue Nation baddie who was captured but not killed at the end of that film. Of course, he’s now escaped and is threatening Hunt with doomy warnings of incoming nuclear attacks. Among other returning faces are Ving Rhames as long-term IMF team member Luther, Alec Baldwin as the CIA’s Alan Hunley, Simon Pegg as Benji, and Rebecca Ferguson reprising her Rogue Nation role of Ilsa Faust.

There’s also a glimpse of Michelle Monaghan as Ethan’s long-standing beau Julia in a shot which seems to show the pair’s marriage — but as it looks like Lane is officiating the wedding and there’s a nuclear explosion in the background, we’d bet Tom Cruise’s insurance pay-outs that that’s a dream sequence.

Of course, what we’re all here for really is the action — and there’s tons of that. Hunt pegs it along the Southbank of the Thames, smashes windows and jumps out of them, gets the snot beaten out of him by Henry Cavill’s formidable moustache, throws himself out of a plane, and falls off a cliff. Or, as Cruise calls it, another day in the office. There’s more of that jaw-dropping helicopter set piece too, set to be Fallout’s “big stunt” in the grand Mission tradition.

The film will cling on to a chopper and land gracefully in UK cinemas on 26 July.
