Motion Picture Sickness

Anyone who's read the sequel to Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, has probably been wondering just how Ridley Scott will manage to transfer the book to the screen in one piece and still pass the censors. Speaking in this month's Premiere, Hannibal's cinematographer John Mathieson does little to allay fears, explaining how they shot one of the goriest scenes in the book (it features bloodthirsty pigs, we'll let you fill in the gaps). The worst jobs were done by animatronic pigs who 'grabbed [a dummy's] face and ripped it right off. The other one grabbed his entrails.' Mathieson explains. 'People were getting sick. I don't they will be able to show much of that.' Ray Liotta, who plays FBI Agent Paul Krendler, believes that the film's climactic scene will be the real stomach-turner; 'Poeple will definitely remember this scene... If anything, it's more explicit than in the book.'
