Aside from 2011's The Muppets (release in 2012 here), it feels like most modern attempts to harness the power of the felt friends hasn't really captured what makes Kermit and co. tick. Disney isn't giving up on the idea though, and a series based on the muppet gang has been in the works quietly for the Mouse House's streaming service, Disney+. Now, according to Splash Report (which has broken a few stories in the past), it appears that Josh Gad and Once Upon A Time producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are putting together a new series.
With no official announcement from either the Muppet camp or Disney itself yet, this one should be filed in the rumour category for now, but it's certainly an appealing idea. The concept for what is apparently currently known as Muppets Live Another Day pitches an adventure set after the events of 1984's The Muppets Take Manhattan, with the group disbanded. Kermit must gather his friends again when piano player Rowlf goes missing.
Splash Report's sources have it aiming for a 2020 release, but now we'll have to wait and see if this rumour turns into reality.
