Strap in — the Robinson family is about get thrown adrift in the cosmos all over again. Netflix is rebooting classic kitschy '60s sci-fi show Lost in Space with a sleekly updated take on the material, and we’ve just got a first look in the form of a trailer. As with previous incarnations (anyone remember the 1998 Matt Le Blanc version?) the show focuses on the Robinsons, a family who blasts off to join a new intergalactic human colony but end up stranded on an alien planet when they crash en route.

Leading the clan is Toby Stephens as John Robinson, while Molly Parker plays matriarch Maureen. Max Jenkins, Taylor Russell, and Mina Sundwall are playing the three Robinson children, Will, Judy and Penny, respectively.

The trailer teases a new version of John Williams’ classic score, with a voiceover from Maureen about the evolution of humanity, while the gleaming visuals hint at impressive production values. The series comes from showrunner Zack Estrin, and as with most Netflix Original series the whole 10-episode run will drop on the same date.

The full series is due to arrive on Netflix on 13 April — unless it gets thrown off course and ends up on the wrong streaming service along the way. You can read more about the Lost in Space reboot in the new issue of Empire, which hits the shelves on Thursday 22 February.
