Even before the pandemic forced cinemas to close their doors, shifting some films' release dates and pushing others online, The New Mutants was famously endlessly delayed. Now the film's official Twitter page has announced a 28 August release, in the States at least.

Whether this means it'll be day and date in the UK is something we've yet to confirm, but it's confirmation that the movie will actually see the inside of cinemas and not be punted direct to Disney Plus by its new studio owners. That assumes, of course, that cinemas are able to properly open in August (screens are opening at different times in different States across the pond and are tentatively set – with extra cleaning, lower capacity and social distancing in place) for July here. Opening even in August feels like a risk given the extreme likelihood of lower earnings.

With Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt and Alice Braga among the cast, The New Mutants was directed by Josh Boone. Stay tuned for when we can get confirmation of a UK date, assuming it's different.
