We're still not sure that films straddling the dramatic and comedic worlds really need to be called a "dramedy", but that's the term Hollywood seems to favour. Still, She Came To Me, a new indie example of the genre, has scored Nicole Kidman, Amy Schumer and Steve Carell to star.
This is director Rebecca Miller's latest project (she also scripted it), and she's keeping things mostly under wraps, though Variety reports that it's apparently following a series of intertwining love stories set in the world of contemporary opera and... tug boats? Did we read that right? Well, we'll see what happens.
But on the Schumer front, Miller's gain is the fast-tracked Barbie movie's loss, as the comedian and actor has announced that she won't be able to do both. "Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts," Schumer says in a statement to Variety. "The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen." It's a tough break for the film, which Sony has already handed a firm June 2018 release date to, so the scramble is now on to lock in a new star.
Carell has tennis drama Battle Of The Sexes headed our way next, while Kidman is on TV screens in Big Little Liars and is part of the cast for The Beguiled, due on 23 June. Schumer will next be seen in comedy Snatched, which arrives on 19 May.
