Paul Dano, still probably best known for being part of the “I drink your milkshake!” scene in There Will Be Blood, is returning to the Western frontier for an entirely different type of film. He’s signed on to Jon Favreau’s adaptation of Cowboys & Aliens.
Daniel Craig is starring in this one, playing an amnesiac gunslinger who stumbles into the tough Arizona desert town of Absolution. The one clue to his recent past is the shackle on his wrist. The town isn’t exactly the friendliest when it comes to new arrivals and the tyrannical Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) makes sure it stays that way.
But then a new and very different type of enemy arrives to trouble the frontier outpost: marauding aliens, and as the nasty extraterrestrials start to abduct humans, the townsfolk, including Ella (Olivia Wilde) and barkeep Doc (Sam Rockwell) realise they have to fight back.
Dano will be playing one of the cowboys who joins the fight in the film. Favreau Tweeted today that he’s been busy shooting tests for the movie, and is trying to decide whether he’ll make it in 3D.
