In a post-Stranger Things, post-It world, Stephen King horror properties remain as enticing a prospect as ever – and while fresh adaptations (Gerald’s Game, 1922) keep popping up, some of his more famous works are coming back a-fresh. Appropriately enough, one of those is Pet Sematary, the one about the pet cemetery (funnily enough) that sees whatever’s buried there get a, er, new lease on life. The new version stars Jason Clarke as Louis Creed, who moves his family to a new home in Maine that backs onto the haunted ground. Check out the trailer:
It’s a promising first look, suggesting there’s life yet in one of King’s more familiar tales. Here’s hoping the film can pay off on the foreboding atmosphere and creepy imagery teased here – and with Starry Eyes directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmeyer behind the camera, this is all looking very promising. John Lithgow is also on hand to add some gravitas to that eerie tagline: “Sometimes dead is better.”
Pet Sematary is due to reanimate in cinemas on 5 April next year – a welcome Stephen King warm-up to the arrival of It: Chapter Two in September.
