Armando Iannucci has been busy locking in the cast he wants to star in his updated adaptation of Charles Dickens' The Personal History Of David Copperfield. He's now adding someone he's worked with in the past, as The Thick Of It/In The Loop's Peter Capaldi is playing Mr. Micawber.

Dev Patel, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Aneurin Barnard, Ben Whishaw, Morfydd Clark, Anthony Welsh and Rosalind Eleazar are all in the ensemble for the film, written by the director and regular collaborator Simon Blackwell.

Iannucci announced Capaldi's casting on Twitter, with the former Doctor Who star set as the kindly soul who helps David in his younger years and reunites with him to offer more assistance later.

Capaldi, last seen in Paddington 2, is voicing Rabbit in Christopher Robin, which is out on 17 August.
